Let me explain. Latin had influence, but only on Old and Middle English.
Please, don't say "It's not French influence".
However, New English has words and part of the grammar from French language.
It did during and especially after The Hundred Years War between England and France.
Well, Latin had influence on English language, but not as capital as French (nearly 300 yrs of direct impact).

I'm interested in that period. I could be wrong but i doubt.
I hope my "lecture" was correct ;-)

Aw, aw... i forgot about examples (words):

garden --> jardin
fluence --> fluidite
stupid --> stupide
advantage --> avantage
adjective --> adjectif

and lot more. Small difference in spelling, higher in pronunciation.
